Parents, even those high in the lineage, and children, even those low in the lineage, are ineligible recipients. Likewise, the husband or wife is ineligible, as is anyone whose maintenance the recipient is obligated to provide. An unbeliever (Kafir) and a slave (Mamlook) are ineligible, unless they are among the administrators/collectors, in which case they receive compensation for their work. A wealthy person (Ghani), defined as one possessing fifty Dirhams or its equivalent in gold, is also ineligible.
