Is it permissible to use Zakat funds to free one's own owned slave?

It is not permissible to free one's owned slave using Zakat funds. This is because the discharge of Zakat must be rendered for property of the same class as that for which Zakat is due, and a slave does not belong to the class of assets upon which Zakat is obligatory.
