Primary text
The stipend of a deceased Muslim soldier is given to his wife and young children to the extent of their sustenance. This provision is based on the rationale that if their sustenance were not assured after his death, the soldier would not have exposed himself to fighting due to fear for his dependents' destitution. When their male children reach maturity, if they choose to participate in fighting, a stipend is assigned to them; otherwise, they are left alone. Whoever leaves the fighting forfeits their right to the stipend.
