How are divorce pronouncements counted if a man marries while a slave, divorces once or not at all, and then gains freedom?

Primary text
If a man marries while he is a slave and does not divorce, or divorces her once, and subsequently gains freedom, he has three divorce pronouncements available to him if he had not divorced, or two if he had divorced once. This is because his status at the time of divorce (slavery) is disregarded, and his status as a free man at the time of potential remarriage is considered, similar to how the woman's status during the waiting period (Iddah) is regarded.
