Primary text

If a non-believer divorces his wife twice and is then enslaved, he is permitted to marry her again, and he only possesses one divorce pronouncement remaining. This is because the two pronouncements made during his non-belief were not considered religiously binding and thus their effect is not carried over after his subsequent enslavement. This is analogous to the two pronouncements made by a slave, which are not counted after his manumission because they occurred while he was restricted.
