Does an Imam leading prayer break an oath not to speak to a specific person if he performs the final salutation (taslim)?
Chapter on Explicit Divorce and Others
Al-Mughni
Book of Divorce
Primary text
If the speaker is the Imam and the intended person is among the followers (ma'mum), the Imam does not break his oath by uttering the final salutation of the prayer, as it is for exiting the prayer, unless he intends by his salutation to address the followers specifically, in which case his ruling becomes the same as greeting them outside of prayer.
Supporting text
There is an indication that the oath is never broken in this case because the prayer salutation is not considered speaking or intended as such by the swearer.
