Divorce does not occur until she becomes pure (tahir) and subsequently begins a new menstrual period.
Supporting text
A view attributed to some companions of Al-Shafi'i suggests that the divorce should take effect upon any subsequent renewal of menstruation or purification, as both conditions (menstruation and purity) have been fulfilled subsequent to the statement.
