The divorce takes effect immediately, regardless of whether Zayd arrives or the wife enters the house. This is supported by the precedent regarding the command to believe in the revelation, where the condition for potential punishment (erasing faces) was not realized among those commanded. Similarly, if one commands a slave to bring water before striking him, obedience is rendered valid upon the first action alone.
