Divorce takes effect immediately when the husband states, 'You are divorced contingent upon the will of so-and-so' (Anta taliqu li-mashii'ati fulan), or 'contingent upon his satisfaction' (li-ridahu). This phrasing implies immediacy because it means, 'You are divorced because he has willed it, or because he is pleased with it,' or 'so that he may be pleased with it.' This is analogous to saying, 'He is free for the sake of Allah' or 'for the satisfaction of Allah.'
