Primary text

When the man tells his wife, 'If I divorce you, my slave is free,' and subsequently tells his slave, 'If you stand up, my wife is divorced,' and the slave stands up, the wife is divorced and the slave is freed. The divorce occurs because the condition for divorce (the slave standing) was met after the condition for manumission (the divorce itself) was established. The divorce fulfills the prerequisite for the slave's freedom.
