Primary text

If a man swore by divorce that he would not go to Armenia except with his wife's permission, and the wife then told him, 'Go wherever you wish,' the correct position is that he does not break his oath if she granted him general permission. This interpretation holds unless the wife's statement was made out of anger or dislike. If she granted permission with a willing heart, it serves as her permission, and he is permitted to travel, even if the permission was stated in general terms.

The interpretation that the wife's statement does not constitute permission is based on the possibility that the husband's response, 'No, until you say: to Armenia,' indicated his desire for specific consent regarding Armenia, implying the general permission was given out of resentment or avoidance.
