Primary text
The statement 'Al-talaq yalzamuni' or 'Al-talaq li laazim' (Divorce is binding upon me) is an explicit declaration of divorce, as this phrasing is used for someone upon whom divorce has actually occurred. Divorce occurs by this statement for whatever the speaker intended: one, two, or three divorces. If the speaker is unrestricted (unspecified intent), there are two narrated opinions regarding the outcome.
