Is establishing a condition for specific service by the husband to the wife as Mahr valid?
General Chapter
Al-Mughni
Book of Dowry (Mahr)
Primary text
If the service required of the husband is quantifiable and known, such as serving for a specific period, the condition is valid. If the service is indefinite and cannot be precisely measured, the contract is invalid, and the wife is entitled to her proper Mahr (Mahr al-Mithl). This interpretation resolves a noted ambiguity regarding a wife who owns property but cannot manage it herself.

A report from Abu Talib concerning Ahmad indicates that stipulating the construction of a house, the tailoring of a garment, or the completion of a specific work as Mahr is permissible because such tasks are known and compensable like tangible assets.
