When is the Mut'ah (consolation gift) due upon divorce?

The Mut'ah is obligatory upon divorce if the amount (*al-musamma*) of the deferred dower was specified, and the divorce is initiated by the husband, thereby partially nullifying the agreed-upon dower. This obligation arises in cases where the divorce necessitates half of the specified dower, as the woman is considered to have received what equals half the agreed amount, thus extinguishing the right to the full Mut'ah.
