If the guardian sets the Mahr without obtaining her consent, the ruling is like that of an unrestricted agent in a sale. If the guardian sets the Mahr as the customary dower (*mahr al-mithl*), any amount above that is valid and binding. If the amount set is less than the customary dower, the woman is entitled to the customary dower.
