What is the ruling on one who denies the obligation of prayer?
Chapter on the Ruling on One Who Abandons Prayer
Al-Mughni
Book of the Eclipse Prayers (Solar and Lunar)
Primary text
If one denies the obligation of prayer while being ignorant of the ruling, such as a recent convert or someone raised in a remote area, they are educated about the obligation and not judged as an apostate due to their excuse. However, if the denial comes from a Muslim raised in populated areas where the obligation is well-known, they are not excused, their claim of ignorance is rejected, and they are judged an apostate. Such a person is treated as any other apostate, subject to seeking repentance and execution. There is no known disagreement on this point.
