Primary text

Worn-out coverings of the Kaaba should not be buried merely to prevent their use by a menstruating woman (haid) or someone in a state of major ritual impurity (junub). Instead, Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) instructed that these coverings should be sold, and the resulting money should be spent in the cause of Allah and for the benefit of the poor and needy. This practice was observed by Shaybah, who would send the coverings to Yemen to be sold, and the money would be spent as directed.

The initial action by Shaybah, which was to bury the old coverings to prevent contact with impure persons, was judged by Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) to be incorrect practice.
