Primary text
For a man, a shirt (*qamis*) suffices, or a garment with which he can cover his private parts and drape something over his shoulders, or two garments—one to wrap around his waist (*izar*) and one to wear over his shoulders (*rida'*). A loincloth alone or trousers alone do not suffice, based on the Prophet's saying: "None of you should pray in a single garment with nothing over his shoulders."
