Primary text

The apparent reading of Al-Kharqi suggests that even consuming strictly lean red meat breaks the oath because it contains an imperceptible amount of fat, which becomes apparent when cooked. This is distinguished from swearing not to eat clarified butter (Saman), where consuming a sweet dish where the butter's taste and color are not evident does not break the oath, as the fat may separate.

Supporting text

Others among the companions of Al-Kharqi disagree, stating that if the fat is not named fat, nor does its color or taste appear, the oath is not broken. The fat that appears in the broth is considered separated from the meat.
