What is the effect of intention (*niyyah*) on an oath sworn using names or descriptions?

If the swearer intends by the oath concerning these specified individuals or objects that the oath remains binding only so long as the relational description or quality remains unchanged, then the oath is interpreted according to the swearer's intention. This is based on the statement of the Prophet, peace be upon him: 'Actions are but by intentions.'
