Is the manumission (Itaq) of a slave a valid means of expiation (Kaffarah)?

The manumission of a slave is universally agreed upon as one of the means of expiation, due to the explicit text of Allah the Exalted: {or the freeing of a slave} (Quran 5:89). Three conditions must be met for the slave being freed.
