Is manumitting half a slave valid if the expiation requires both manumission and feeding/clothing?

Primary text
It is not valid to free half a slave and feed five poor people, or clothe them. There is no known disagreement on this. The purposes of manumission (completing legal obligations and freeing the person from servitude) are distinct and separate from the purposes of feeding (averting starvation) and clothing (covering nakedness and protecting from cold). Because their meanings and applications are disparate, they are not treated as a single category, and thus, one cannot complete the expiation requirement with the other.
