Primary text

If one swears not to eat roasted meat (Shawaa'), the oath is broken only by eating roasted meat, not by eating other roasted items like roasted eggs. This aligns with the view of the 'Aṣḥāb al-Ra’y (Hanafi scholars).

Supporting text

Abu Yusuf and Ibn Al-Mundhir hold that eating anything that is roasted breaks the oath because it is called 'Shawaa'.' The counter-argument is that since non-meat items are not customarily called Shawaa', the oath refers to the commonly understood term, i.e., roasted meat.
