Primary text
If a person swears by Allah, saying, 'I will drink the water in this jug tomorrow,' and the water spills today, or, 'I will eat this bread tomorrow,' and the bread perishes, the oath is broken, similar to the ruling concerning a slave that is decreed lost. This ruling is held because the object of the oath is not within the person's absolute power to preserve. This principle applies when the subject matter becomes impossible to attain or use as intended.
