Primary text
The original master of the slave does not inherit his freed slave while the emancipating slave is alive, similar to how he does not inherit the children of his slave. However, if the original master emancipates his slave, and then the original master dies, the master inherits the one whom his slave freed, as he is the 'master of his master's master' (mawla mawlahu). This principle is analogous to the loyalty flowing from the children of a female slave to the master of her mother, allowing the master to inherit upon the father's death.
