Primary text
If an individual swears an oath not to marry, use perfume, or perform purification (taharah) and persists in this state, they do not incur expiation (Hinth). This ruling applies according to all jurists because the continuation of these actions is not termed as performing the act itself. One does not say, 'I married for a month,' or 'I purified myself for a month,' or 'I used perfume for a month.' Rather, one says, 'It has been a month since...' Furthermore, the Lawgiver (Shari') did not equate the sustained performance of marriage or using perfume with initiating them in terms of prohibition during Ihram or necessitating expiation.
