Does swearing not to eat barley result in breaking the oath if one consumes wheat containing some barley grains?
General Chapter
Al-Mughni
Book of Expiations
Primary text
Breaking the oath occurs if one eats wheat that contains grains of barley, because barley was consumed. This is analogous to swearing not to eat fresh dates (*rutab*) and then eating a portion (*munṣaf*) thereof. The ruling is established by direct action contrary to the oath.
Supporting text
It is possible that the oath is not broken because the barley is consumed as an inseparable part of the wheat, similar to how fat is consumed within *khabīṣ* (a type of sweet dish).
