Primary text

If a person swears an oath not to eat (*ya'kuluh*) or not to drink (*yashrabuh*) something, but merely tastes it (*dhawaqah*), the oath is not broken, according to the consensus. This is because tasting is not considered eating or drinking, which is why it does not invalidate the fast of one who is fasting.
