Is eating and drinking considered breaking the fast?

Primary text
Eating and drinking break the fast by unanimous agreement, supported by the Quran and Sunnah. The evidence from the Quran is the verse stating: "And eat and drink until the white thread of dawn becomes distinct to you from the black thread [of night]. Then complete the fast until the night." (Quran 2:187). This verse limits eating and drinking until the dawn, commanding fasting afterward. The evidence from the Sunnah is the Prophet's statement: "By Him in Whose Hand is my soul, the breath-odor of a fasting person is sweeter to Allah than the scent of musk, because he has forsaken his food, drink, and desires for My sake."
