Is expiation (Kaffarah) obligatory upon a traveler who breaks his fast by engaging in sexual intercourse after forming the intention to fast?

There are two narrations regarding expiation for breaking the fast through sexual intercourse while traveling. The sounder view, which aligns with the opinion of Imam Al-Shafi'i, is that no expiation is required. The reasoning is that since the fast does not require continuation, expiation is not necessitated by sexual intercourse, similar to a voluntary fast. Furthermore, the intercourse occurs after the intention to break the fast has been formed, placing it in the category of eating and then engaging in intercourse.
