Is an intention for fasting made during the day sufficient for a makeup fast (Qada' Ramadan)?
General Chapter
Al-Mughni
Book of Fasting
Primary text
If one intends a makeup fast for Ramadan during the daytime, and this intention is not made from the preceding night, it is generally valid unless the intention is subsequently nullified. This opinion is supported by a narration transmitted by Ibn Mansur from Ahmad.
Supporting text
Al-Qadi interprets this permission as contingent upon the intention being sustained until some part of the night, aligning with the general principle that the intention for fasting must be made from the night based on the Prophet's saying, "There is no fast for one who has not made the intention from the night."
