Is the introduction of a substance into the brain or throat via permitted medical intervention fast-breaking?
General Chapter
Al-Mughni
Book of Fasting
Primary text
The introduction of a substance into the stomach, brain, or throat intentionally invalidates the fast because it reaches the fasting person's interior cavity by choice, thus resembling introduction via the throat. The brain is considered an interior cavity, and anything reaching it provides nourishment, thus breaking the fast, similar to substances reaching the body cavity.
