Is it disliked (*makruh*) to perform deferred obligatory fasting during the first ten days of Dhu al-Hijjah?

Primary text
It is not disliked to perform deferred obligatory fasting during the first ten days of Dhu al-Hijjah. This view is held by Sa'id ibn al-Musayyib, Al-Shafi'i, and Ishaq. The evidence cited is that 'Umar ibn al-Khattab preferred to make up Ramadan fasts during these ten days. Furthermore, since these days are designated for acts of worship, refraining from making up fasts in favor of voluntary worship is not disliked, similar to the first ten days of Muharram.
Supporting text
The second view is that it is disliked to perform deferred fasting during these ten days, a position narrated from Al-Hasan and Al-Zuhri. This is supported by a narration from 'Ali that he disliked it. The primary evidence for this dislike is the Prophet's saying that no deeds are more beloved to Allah during these days than deeds done in the first ten days of Dhu al-Hijjah, even Jihad, except for one who sacrifices himself and his wealth without returning with anything. Therefore, it is preferred to reserve these days for voluntary acts of worship to attain their immense virtue, and deferred fasts should be made up during other times.
