Primary text

There is consensus among scholars that fasting on the two Eid days is forbidden, prohibited for voluntary, unspecified vow, make-up, or expiation fasts. This is based on the reports from Umar ibn al-Khattab and Abu Hurayra, stating the Prophet (PBUH) forbade fasting on the day of breaking the fast (Fitr) and the day of eating from the sacrifice (Adha). Prohibition implies invalidity and prohibition of the act.

Supporting text

There is a difference of opinion regarding fasting these days for a specified vow, which will be discussed later.
