Primary text

It is permissible for a person who is fasting to perform Ghusl. This is established by the testimony of Aisha and Umm Salamah that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) would sometimes wake up in a state of major ritual impurity (Janabah) without a nocturnal emission, perform Ghusl, and then fast. This narration is reported by Al-Bukhari and Muslim. Furthermore, Abu Bakr narrated with his chain that Ibn Abbas entered the public bath (Hammam) while fasting during Ramadan, along with some companions.
