Primary text
Making up the fast is obligatory for the traveler, menstruating woman, and sick person if they broke their fast, without difference of opinion. This is evidenced by the statement of God Almighty: "But whoever of you is ill or on a journey, then [he must fast] an equal number of other days" (Quran 2:184), which implies making up the missed days if the fast was broken. Furthermore, Aisha reported that during the time of the Messenger of God, peace be upon him, when women experienced menstruation, they were commanded to make up the missed fasts.
