Does regaining consciousness during any part of the day invalidate a fast broken by unconsciousness (*ighma'*)?
General Chapter
Al-Mughni
Book of Fasting
Primary text
If the unconscious person regains consciousness during any part of the day, the fast is valid, whether it is in the beginning or the end. This is because consciousness was restored during a portion of the day, which suffices, just as if it occurred at the start.
Supporting text
Al-Shafi'i holds in one of his views that consciousness must be regained at the beginning of the day for the ruling of intention to take effect from the start of the day.
