What is the ruling concerning a woman who had missed fasts from Ramadan?
General Chapter
Al-Mughni
Book of Fasting
Primary text
A woman who had missed fasts from Ramadan must perform the makeup fasts (Qada') and feed a poor person for every day missed, provided she died before making up the fasts. This ruling also applies to a sick person or a traveler who died after neglecting the makeup fasts. The ruling is that whoever owes a fast from Ramadan may delay it until the next Ramadan arrives, as narrated by Aisha: 'There would be days I owed fasting from Ramadan, and I would not make them up until the arrival of Sha'ban.' This hadith is agreed upon (Muttafaqun 'alayh).
Supporting text
It is not permissible to delay the makeup fast past the next Ramadan without a valid excuse because Aisha did not delay it past that point, and if she could have, she would have. Furthermore, fasting is a repeated act of worship, and it is impermissible to delay the first instance past the second, similar to the obligatory prayers.
