Primary text
It is recommended to seek Laylat al-Qadr during all nights of Ramadan, with greater emphasis during the last ten nights, and even more emphasis during the odd nights within those ten. Imam Ahmad stated it is certainly in the last ten nights, and in an odd night thereof, based on reports from the Prophet, peace be upon him, urging its search in the last ten nights, specifically in the twenty-third, twenty-fifth, or twenty-seventh night (three, seven, or nine nights remaining). The Prophet, peace be upon him, also confirmed seeking it in the odd nights of the last ten. Aisha reported that when the last ten nights began, the Prophet, peace be upon him, would enliven the night, awaken his family, and tighten his waistcloth, exerting himself more than in other nights. Ali also narrated that the Prophet, peace be upon him, would wake his family during the last ten nights. The Prophet, peace be upon him, observed I'tikaf during the last ten nights of Ramadan, and commanded seeking the Night of Decree on the odd nights of the last ten.
