Does swallowing moisture attached to an object placed in the mouth invalidate the fast?
General Chapter
Al-Mughni
Book of Fasting
Primary text
If a person places a pebble or a dirham in their mouth, removes it, and it has saliva moisture on it, and then returns it to their mouth and swallows that moisture, the ruling depends on the quantity. If the amount of saliva is significant and swallowed, the fast is broken. If the amount is slight, the fast is not broken by swallowing that saliva.
Supporting text
Some scholars within our school of thought rule that swallowing even a slight amount of moisture from an external object invalidates the fast because that moisture, which was on the body of the object, is being swallowed.
