Is the testimony of a single trustworthy reporter regarding the sighting of Ramadan accepted?
General Chapter
Al-Mughni
Book of Fasting
Primary text
If an informant whose word is trusted reports the sighting of the moon, fasting becomes obligatory upon the recipient of the report, even if the judge does not confirm the testimony. This is because the report concerns the time of an act of worship shared between the reporter and the recipient, analogous to reports about the Prophet (PBUH) or the entry of prayer time. This implies the obligation to accept the report even if the judge rejects it, as the judge's rejection may stem from ignorance of the informant's justice.

Ibn Aqil mentioned this opinion. The consequence is that the judge's rejection does not negate the obligation if the recipient knows the informant is just.
