Primary text

The jurisprudential school suggests accepting the word of a woman, which is the view of Abu Hanifa and one narration attributed to al-Shafi'i's companions. This is because the report concerns a religious matter, similar to narration (Riwāyah) or reporting the time of prayer.

Supporting text

There is an alternative possibility that her testimony is not accepted because it concerns the sighting of the moon, for which a woman's testimony is not accepted, similar to the moon of Shawwal.
