Book of Fasting
Primary text
The entirety of the ten days of Dhu al-Hijjah are noble and preferred, and deeds performed during them are multiplied. Exertion in worship during these days is recommended based on the narration from Ibn Abbas: "There are no days in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these ten days." When asked if Jihad was included, the Prophet replied, "Not even Jihad in the cause of Allah, except for a man who goes out with his life and wealth and returns with nothing thereof." Another narration from Abu Hurayrah states that the reward for fasting each day of these ten equals the fast of a full year, and standing in prayer each night equals standing in prayer on Laylat al-Qadr. The Prophet's wives narrated that the Prophet used to fast the nine days of Dhu al-Hijjah and the day of Ashura.
