What is the disposition of captured rebels?
General Chapter
Al-Mughni
Book of Fighting Rebellious Groups
Primary text
If a captured rebel returns to obedience, he must be released. If he refuses and is a strong, fighting man, he is imprisoned as long as the war continues. When the war ends, he is released, conditioned upon his pledge not to return to fighting. If the captive is not a fighting person, such as women, children, and extremely aged men, they must be released based on one opinion.
Supporting text
In another opinion, non-fighting captives are imprisoned to break the resolve of the rebels.
