Primary text

It is not disliked for a just ruler to kill his rebellious relative because the killing is lawful (bi-haqq), resembling the execution of a prescribed legal punishment (Hadd). A group of scholars disliked intentional killing in this regard, which is deemed the sounder opinion. This is supported by the Divine statement: "And if they strive to make you associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them, but accompany them in the world with kindness and justice" (Quran 31:15). The Prophet, peace be upon him, restrained Abu Hudhayfah and Utbah from killing their fathers.

Supporting text

A faction held that such killing is impermissible because God commanded accompanying them with kindness (ma'ruf), and killing the relative is not part of kindness.
