Primary text

If the man's Umm Walad nurses his young child, her act invalidates the marriage contract, causing perpetual prohibition to the husband because she becomes like a step-daughter (rabiba) whose mother he has consummated. Furthermore, the Umm Walad becomes perpetually prohibited to him because she assumes the status of one of his motherly figures through kinship lines. There is no financial liability (gharamah) upon her because she caused damage to her master. If the master had entered into a contract of manumission with her (mukataba), he may revoke the contract and claim compensation from her because a freedwoman is liable for the damages she causes.
