Primary text

The prohibition is established if milk is made into cheese and then fed to an infant. This is the position held by Al-Shafi'i. The reasoning is that the substance originates from the throat, causing flesh to grow and bones to strengthen, thus establishing the prohibition, analogous to direct ingestion.

Supporting text

Abu Hanifa holds that it does not establish prohibition because the name (of milk) has ceased to exist. This is also consistent with the narration that prohibiting sustenance received via liquid passing through the throat (wujur) does not apply here, which suggests prohibition is established even more strongly when the substance is consumed.
