Chapter on the Two Eid Prayers

Al-Mughni

Book of Friday Prayer

Book 4 · Issue 13 · Bab 2

Open in Qurani

Primary text

If a latecomer joins the Imam after the Imam has completed the takbeers but before recitation, the latecomer should recite the takbeers, as they have reached the proper time for them. If the latecomer joins during the Imam's recitation, they must listen to the Imam's recitation.

Supporting text

There is a view that if the latecomer can hear the Imam's recitation, they should remain silent, but if they are too far away, they should perform the takbeers. If the latecomer joins the Imam during the bowing, they should not perform the additional takbeers, as they are a Sunnah related to the standing position, similar to the *Istiftah*.
