Primary text

If one delays attending Jumu'ah after the Imam has emerged, the scrolls upon which the names of attendees are recorded are closed, and the latecomer forfeits any associated merit. Delaying further enters one into the realm of censure and blame, as indicated by the Prophet's reproach to a man who walked over people's shoulders, saying, 'I saw you delay and cause harm.' Umar also questioned Uthman's late arrival while he was delivering the sermon, implying disapproval. Missing the Jumu'ah prayer entirely due to excessive delay means one cannot attain the promised great rewards, such as a she-camel or a cow.
