Primary text

One must proceed with tranquility (*sakīnah*) and dignity (*waqār*) upon hearing the Iqamah, without hastening. One should also refrain from interlacing one's fingers and should take short, close steps to increase one's good deeds. This is based on the Prophetic instruction: "When you hear the Iqamah, walk and adopt tranquility and dignity, and do not hasten." The Prophet, peace be upon him, demonstrated this by taking close steps, stating the purpose was to increase the steps taken in seeking prayer.
